The recent revision of the ISO 9000:1994 Quality Assurance System standard to the ISO 9001: 2000 Quality management System standard aims at enhancing Customer Satisfaction Control of the process through the application of "Statistical Techniques" and "Continual Improvement" in the organization's performance.

QB proposes to provide assistance to any organization for the implementation of ISO 9001: 2000 standard so as to prepare the organization for the Third party assessment for certification under the revised standard. The scope of revised QMS shall cover all departments of the organization at the present location.


The prime aim of the above proposal is to enable the company to:

Upgrade the existing implemented Quality Management System to confirm the revised ISO 9001: 2000 International Standard.

QB would provide assistance for the upgradation of the present implemented Quality management System to satisfy all elements of the revised ISO 9001:2000 so as to prepare the unit for certification under the revised standard. The major task includes the following: -

Carrying out initial gap analysis of the organization's present QMS with respect to ISO 9001: 2000 QMS standard requirements.

Reviewing the Quality policy in view of the requirements of revised standard, size and nature of the organization's operations and expectations and needs of the Customers.

QMS Documentation preparation satisfying all ISO 9001: 2000 requirements and adequacy review for confirmative assessment with respect to this standard and organization's needs.

  • Providing Training on ISO 9001:2000 Standard.
  • Providing Training on the "Statistical Techniques".
  • Refresher Training to the Organization's Internal Quality Auditors on the requirements of the new standard.
  • Internal QMS audit under the revised standard (To verify the effectiveness of implementation of QMS documentation and recording the findings).
  • Assistance during assessment by the Certification Body.


The task for design and implementation of ISO 9001:2000

Phase I: Upgradation of the QMS as per the new standard
Phase II: Implementation of Revised QMS
Phase III: Assistance during assessment by certifying agency

The task and detailed methodology under each phase will include :

Phase I : Upgradation of QMS

The Upgradation of QMS begins with a One-Day Appreciation Training programme on the requirement of the revised QMS for senior and middle level management.

QB and core group would prepare a detailed time bound action plan for upgradation, implementation and obtaining QMS certification during first visit of QB's professional. The same will be forwarded to top Management.

QB shall interact regularly with the core group (as per action plan) and provide clear and comprehensive understanding to undertake different steps involved as mentioned below for the upgradation of QMS. QB shall provide necessary guidance to the core team members in order to ensure their best and timely output.

a) Gap Analysis with respect to ISO 9001: 2000

  • Initial one day training programme on ISO 9001: 2000 Documentation.
  • Review of the process, formats etc. as prevailing in the different departments of the organization
  • Review of the current organization structure and responsibilities & authorities of the key functionaries.

The specific emphasis is given to this exercise, as the upgradation of the QMS documentation is critically dependent on this for effective results.

b)Development of:

  • Revised structure of QMS documentation.
  • Review of the Quality policy.
  • Formulation of Quality Objectives.
  • Revised Organizational Structure & Responsibilities & authorities of the key functionaries.
  • Process Flow Sheets & Identification of Key process characteristics and their control methodology.
  • Quality Manual as per ISO 9001: 2000
  • Additions & Revisions to the existing Procedure, Work Instructions and forms & formats.

(These activities shall be undertaken by the MR & the core group with the assistance of QB professionals and shall involve close interaction with the top management and the departmental HOD's. QB professionals shall provide necessary guidance on developing above documentation and facilitate writing of the new QMS documents)

c)QB shall undertake comprehensive QMS documentation Review to assess conformance with clause-by-clause requirements of ISO 9001:2000.

(The output of phase I shall be final QMS documents ready for issue)

Phase II : Implementation of QMS

  • QB shall conduct a training programme on "Statistical Techniques" for the selected plant personnel.
  • QB shall conduct the refresher internal auditors training programme for the Organization's internal quality auditors.
  • Internal audit shall be carried out by the internal auditors trained by QB professionals. QB professionals shall review the NCRs and corrective actions taken.
  • On the basis of the audit findings we shall assess the readiness for assessment by external certifying agency. A Management Review shall be conducted.
  • Prior to the Certification Audit by the external agency, QB'S auditor shall carry out a Quality Audit of the implemented revised QMS.

Phase III : Assistance during assessment by certifying agency

QB professionals shall be present during the assessment by certifying agency, as required, for necessary assistance.


It is expected that the certification can be achieved in approx. 3 to 4 months time. The actual time taken for the upgradation and implementation of the revised QMS would largely depend on the level of efforts and commitment shown by the management and core team.

Note:The certification can be achieved even in lesser time depending upon the level of commitment from the top management.
